Time to Batten Down Everything!

Posted by on August 26, 2011

We’ve been home for a week or so, and YES I am behind on a number of posts that are still in draft mode from the last leg of our trip, but after tracking Hurricane Irene for the last few days, I am glad that we’re here at home base to “batten down the hatches”.

I’m not so glad that we’re here because today’s projected path has Hurricane Irene passing LITERALLY through our backyard. The blue line is the path of this posting, as provided by Google’s Crisis Response website at http://crisislanding.appspot.com/ You can input any address, and see where the projected path is.  The yellow rectangle, our home and yard!

Time to fill up on fuel in the motorhome, car and all empty canisters. Bring in everything that is outside in the yard and quite possible board up as many windows as we can. Our home has a lot of windows, some that really can’t be boarded up, along with 5 sets of 8′ sliding glass doors.

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day!

Yikes! While it’s good timing that you got home to take care of everything, that path is a tad too close! Here’s hoping the storm significantly downgrades by the time it gets to you.

Thanks … the track has been bouncing around quite a bit over the last 24 hours. From about 40 miles east of us, to about 3 miles behind us. Right now it’s tracking back to the east again, putting us on the less windy side.
