After being here on Grand Island, only a few miles from Niagara Falls, we decided to head over to the falls tonight. The falls really are as beautiful and majestic as everyone says they are, but what’s up with the low tide smell? As soon as we got near the falls it smelled like low tide at Short Beach ( a Stratford, CT reference) or was it Long Beach? Either way it still smelled like low tide. I’m guessing that it smells like this all the time since it even smelled like low tide when we were up on the very high overlook platform.
We got to the falls about about 2 hours or so before dusk, so we got to walk around the gardens and see some of the other sights. We didn’t do any of the other “touristy” stuff. Maybe we’ll do that the day before we leave.
After we got a few good photos we decided to head over to The Hard Rock Cafe for some liquid refreshment. The bartender was great, really friendly and made some nice, potent drinks! We had a couple of rounds, and then like all the other tourists, headed back to the falls for the night lights.
The lights at night really bring a different perspective to the falls, and are really beautiful.
If you haven’t been to Niagara Falls yet, you should take the time to take a weekend or weeklong trip up here. There are a lot of things to do within a drive of less than an hour.
This was a great stop on our Journey across America!
