First Day at Lake George Escapes

Posted by on August 9, 2011

Monday, our first full day at Lake George, we woke up to rain. It seems that there is a rain cell that will be lingering around for a few days, although the end of the weeks looks like it will have beautiful weather. We’ll be here for the week, so I’m hoping that we’ll have a few nice afternoon days so that we can head out and see the sights and hopefully make it over to Six Flags – The Great Escape. We haven’t been to this Six Flags yet, so it’s definitely one to check off our Amusement Park list.

After our late breakfast, the sun came out, the campsite dried up and the day turned really nice. We did a little more walking/exploring around the campground with the dogs, met some other campers and overall had a nice relaxing afternoon.

Once again, it was time to venture out and find a local grocery store, so I fired up Google Places and we found a few within about 10 miles, so we headed out to get some food for the next few days. We’re having guests for a couple of days, so we stocked up some grillin’ food and snacks and headed back to the campground.

The theme this week at the campground, well actually this and next week, is Halloween and while I was out grilling our dinner, the Halloween Hayride and Parade came around the corner. While it’s not likely something that I will do, the kids on the hayride and following on their bikes, were really having some fun.

After dinner, the dogs went out for another walk … with all this walking we are all doing – exploring each campground – we’re all losing some weight! The jeans and shorts that we bought only a few weeks ago when we started this journey, are already too big. I guess overall that’s a good thing, but geez, I haven’t even broken these jeans in yet. That’s what a wheat free, gluten free, limited sugar “diet” with some regular exercise – mostly in the form of walking every day, will do for you.

Erin and Jamie arrived right around 10pm and they are staying with us for a few days. We’re looking forward to spending some time with them – and likely tormenting them in our own special ways 😉

Thanks to Jamie and his excellent fire building skills, we were able to get a great fire going with a combination of wet and dry wood. We sat out by the fire, had some drinks, some laughs and an all around good time until the wee hours of the morning.

A great ending to a good day!
